Poem #26 Thirty Poems in Thirty Days

Disfigurement

She stands in front of the green peppers
and checks for firmness, for a smooth skin
without blemishes, rejecting several
before selecting two.

She turns toward the aisle.

I see her face and
stare at the tomatoes
in the bin.
