The Ocean Path at Acadia National Park

Last week I sat by the ocean
watching the surf
gently massage the shore

Today waves jumped over granite
rocks, ignoring barriers—
claiming anything in their path

Twenty tourists viewed spindrift
and froth climb the rocks

A rogue wave enveloped
the twenty and thrust them
into a churning swell

Not all survived the tumult
