My partner's computer screen developed a strange ailment--loss of pixels. An inch wide white band extends down the entire screen. The solution is a new panel costing five hundred dollars or a new computer. There's also the option of ignoring the band.
We all become skilled at ignoring things. We ignore the wheeling and dealing of congress and pretend that the means justify the ends. We ignore whatever is uncomfortable and too often content ourselves with the pragmatic solution rather than the moral solution.
Ignoring the white band is far easier.
