Ambiguity Sits on the Bench

The day began slowly, too fast
for the one-handed
Town-Hall clock

A plumber stopped a leak
by flooding the street,
then fixed the clock
with a wrench

An auto mechanic
picked up his brush,
dipped it into motor oil
and painted wisteria
on the flooded street

Two ministers
argued about
groundlessness
while piloting their
glider above the town

The mayor appeared
in his bathing suit
and declared a moratorium—
