To Everything there is a season,
and a time for every purpose under the sun.
KJV Eccleslastes 3:1
My mother believed in spring cleaning
She washed away winter's residue
on window sills and radiators,
yanked every moveable chair
to a new location and tried to undo
the deep ruts left in our gold carpet.
Imitation Chinese vases ousted
from their set places received a washing.
She broomed dust from crevices,
swooped around our three rooms,
replaced winter drapes
shuttering out the cold
with sheer lace curtains.
Then she sat down
and studied her maj jong card.
