An Unforgiving Intrusion at the Town Library Sale

Books stuffed into corrugated boxes
desire one more reading.

Conspicuous Harlequin romances
promise amorous trysts.

Thumbed mysteries consummate
in blood and titillate browsers.

In a box of classics
Dante's Inferno leans against
Tolstoy's Anna Karenina
an apparent Armageddon.
